I'm about two years late to the party but I saw Joker the other day, and I thought it was damn good. I didn't think it would be THAT good or THAT dark. Really impressed. Not gonna rate it because I can't count beyond three, but that's my opinion on it.

Batman 89 was ok too, you should check it out. I like Batman as a character and I love Tim Burton's tale on the mythology. But the latest Batman-adjacent films did nothing for me, which is why I resisted watching the Joker until now.

If you like the darkness of Joker, you might like this one. I definitely do.

I watched it after the Joker thinking it would be as great, I didn't like it all that much. I thought everything felt too forced.

I’m looking forward to them having Bruce become more Bruce-like, though. I presume that’s the direction they’ll take him in.

I’m looking forward to them having Bruce become more Bruce-like, though. I presume that’s the direction they’ll take him in. I thought it would have been a good thriller, but to me the Batman mythology felt shoehorned in there. And a lot of the tension and drama felt over-the-top, to me the movie couldn't decide if it was trying to be a somewhat realistic noir film or a "traditional" comic book film. That was also my complaint with the Nolan films. And it's also absolutely ridiculous how they have all actors playing Batman speak in that emo growl.

I’m in the minority, but I hated Bale as Batman. Decent enough Bruce Wayne, but I hate almost everything about him as Batman. He has no presence at all, to me. The costume sucks and looks like rubber sports padding, the voice is beyond laughable, and his face looks terrible in that cowl. Gotham just feels like Chicago at night, and other than Ledger’s excellent Joker, there’s nothing that feels particularly gritty or dangerous about Nolan’s Gotham, to me. Reeves fixed almost all of my issues with the Nolanverse and I’m excited to see where he takes it. If they’re not going to give Affleck a proper shot at it, I am at least excited for the sequel to Battinson.

You could see glimpses of it in the mediocre movies he was in. What I do like about the Pattinson Batman is that there is that "detective" element that none of the movies really did justice to.

I think Affleck was great, they just have him shitty movies to be in. That warehouse fight in BVS is the best three or four minutes of Batman-related anything ever put on film. Of any of the Batmen, Affleck's is the one you'd least want to fuck with.

WB supposedly got cold feet because BR was so dark, but 89 was just as dark plotwise, the color scheme was brighter that's all.

Batman Returns definitely kicked it up a notch. Overtly sexual stuff with Catwoman (my first crush), Penguin saying some very PG-13 shit to her, the gushing bile, blowing people up, much scarier henchmen, the circus freaks, etc. There was a definite increase in dark shit in that movie. It's also my favorite Batman movie. I must have watched it 500 times, as a kid.
Also, Elfman's score in that movie is out of control. Couldn't be more epic.
