I saw the Stones for what is most likely the last time last night, and it's left me strangely emotional. Of course the show was fantastic, they truly are the world's greatest rock n' roll band. I was over on Ronnie's side and had a blast. Check out some pics HERE .

Box is a weird term for pussy but I guess I can see where it comes from. I mean, you can put things in a box, like you can put things in a vagina. So why not? Still, I find it weird and I don't think I'm alone.

Damn you're up early on a Sunday! (or up super late after the show) Ok, here's my mini-review: Scored a GA lawn ticket as soon as I arrived at the gate from a Brit fan. As usual, I patiently waited for the opener to finish while trying to find a good floor spot... Paris got Ayron Jones; while not bad, I wasn't really into it. Why couldn't we get Echo & the Bunnymen like the Stones' Liverpool date? C'est la vie...the lawn was actually a mix of lawn and sand (I spotted people making little hills of sand with their feet to get a few extra inches of height lol) I was especially eager to hear the beginning of their set as that's where they drop the "surprises". Among them were 19th Nervous Breakdown (awesome), Like a Rolling Stone (ugh, this and Shine a Light are the 2 songs I can't stand!) and Wild Horses (awesome, the first time I'd heard them play it live, possibly my favourite Stones tune). Once Ghost Town (their recent single) hit, I went to grab a beer. With beer in hand, I noticed that the lawn section went all the way around the rafters. Lo and behold I found a great spot to the left of the stage; unlike my previous spot, I had a great view of the musicians and didn't have to rely on the screens! I liked Jagger's joke about riding to the venue on a bike with the mayor of Paris, which garnered copious booing (she's made life hell for those who want to drive and park in Paris, converting roads to bike lanes, reversing the directions of streets and getting rid of parking spots; the French def sanctioned her during the presidential election - she only got 1.5% of the votes!). Mick and Keith were in great form, Ronnie seemed a bit frail, but they seemed to be playing great. Glad that we got Gimme Shelter at the end, at the previous show in Lyon they dropped it at the last minute because of the heat. Was this my last Stones show? I hate to say it, but I doubt I'll get the chance to see them again. Even if they tour again next year, it will probably be the US or South America...who knows, people have been predicting their demise since the 80s!

Cool that your first show had Bon Jovi as an opener! Ah the good ole days...when the Stones had Van Halen or Mötley Crüe opening shows :b

Or when they charged regular prices for admission and not $100s for nosebleed seats... man, fuck the fucking Eagles and their greedhead midget manager.
Anyway, agree with you psych on the Stones playing "Like a Rollin' Stone"... it was already stale in 2002 when I saw them do it, ffs. Brenda probably likes it.

It's one of the rotating songs on this tour. I thought it was great.

Meh. It was a gimmick cover to sell their unplugged CD. No need to keep flogging it almost 30 years later. I'm paying $4-500 to see the Stones play the fucking Stones.

Or when they charged regular prices for admission and not $100s for nosebleed seats... I'm not gonna complain about price. They're not playing back to back nights like KiSS still does, they play 2 nights a week and have a lot of mouths to feed, they must have a huge overhead. That being said, for $100 it was still possibly to have a pretty good "seat" not that far from the stage; on this particular night, you just had to walk all the way around to one of the sides (ie, properly explore the available areas).
And the Stones are the only band to offer "Lucky Dips", relatively cheap "lottery tix" where you might score a killer pit ticket for around $60 (or a nosebleed). When I saw the Stones in Marseilles in 2018 I got lucky and was 20 feet away from the stage for dirt-cheap! They had these tix for last night; so even if you "lost", you still paid less than those who directly bought floor tickets. Of course, most people don't know about them, they're a sort of bonus for the diehards. I wasn't sure I'd make the show so I opted to wait until I showed up to find any ticket I could find...

I didn't blame them per se. The 94 Eagles reunion was the tipping point for concert prices going into the $100s for top acts. But KISS and the Stones followed suit pretty quickly.
"Have a lot of mouths to feed"... LOL. They don't need to tour, and they don't need the money... by this time, even Leavell and Jones have generational wealth.

Well, I paid a lot of money for it. More than I've ever paid for one concert ticket. And it was worth every penny. Of course, if they came here more often I probably wouldn't be able to justify paying that much every time...

I dunno enough about the Eagles to comment on them...as for Kiss, which I mentioned above, they're def greedy and won't deny it! I paid more to see them last month than I did the Stones last night, for similar floor seats, and they're playing quite a few back to back shows (they played Belgium the night before I saw them). And regarding the Stones, they've always been accused of charging too much, right from the early 70s (or maybe even late 60s; wasn't the free Altamont concert also meant to offset that greedy image they had? Not positive but I think that was one of the reasons for doing it). "Lots of mouths to feed": of course they don't need the money or to tour, but they still have a sizeable roadstaff, and those non-show days cost a lot of money, that's all I meant.

You can look it up, but the Eagles HFO 94 tour was the 1st to charge super-premium prices - I think it was like $77 for a stadium bleeder. For comparison, I saw the Stones and P/P around that time for about $25. I think when the Stones went back out for Stripped the following year they were charging $100 for an arena seat, then KISS 96 really opened the floodgates.

And today we have Springsteengate, which takes things to an even higher level. I have to say, prices in Europe are not nearly as bad. I've only been to a handful of shows in the U.S. (not counting jazz shows in clubs) and I was amazed at the prices. But your secondary market is pretty much institutionalized... I think this needs to be regulated, but what do I know: I'm a dirty soshalist!

Yes that's the next level, legalized scalping day-of-sale. "It keeps the money in the artists' hands"

Yes that's the next level, legalized scalping day-of-show. "It keeps the money in the artists' hands" Of course the artist is complicit. Remember that leaked phone call between LiveNation and Metallica's manager from a few years ago? I may be a dirty soshalist but I don't begrudge anyone from trying to make a buck, or even as much money as possible. Still, there ought to be some more ethical standards and practices.

In 'Murica? Fat fuckin' chance, especially now with basically 0 revenue from recorded media. They're gonna shake the fans down for every last nickel.

Damn you, when I saw this thread I thought it was some exciting news about the Stones hanging out in Paris last night!
That was a great show, I remember running out of the train home from vacation, dropping my shit off at home and scrambling to the show without a ticket!
