First off, I'm not a huge Queen fan, but I'm still a fan, and this is one of those bucket list bands I really wanted to see once.
Not being in Paris for the Paris date, I decided to buy a round-trip train ticket for the Munich show, which was sold out and for which I had NO ticket! As luck, or custom more likely, would have it, they put some more tickets on the market last week and I snapped up a nosebleed seat (no floor was avail). My nosebleed seat was actually pretty good as the Olympiahalle arena isn't that big; but I was off to the side of stage left.
Getting there was a major hassle; I had to first track down an Allruth (?) gas station where they print them up (e-tix were not an option). And then I set foot for the arena, which looked pretty close on the map I printed, but I got lost and it took me over an hour to find the place.
As for the show, it was very good! The setlist was pretty balanced (but I would have like to hear Liar, Flick of the Wrist, Keep Yourself Alive...) and Adam Lambert does a very good job of keeping Freddy's spirit alive. He's a flamboyant mofo and seems very comfortable in his role. I didn't care too much for Brian May's solo (single note stuff with heavy emphasis/reliance on effects), but gotta give them props, Brian May is 74, and he's playing back to back dates on a lot of this tour! The previous night they were in Zurich...I don't know of too many artists of this age who can pull that off. Roger Taylor has some chick doing percussion to his right side, but that's all good.
Sorry for the review quality, I'm very short on sleep (train back was at 3:30am with a change of trains at 6:30 in Manheim!) and have to be on the other side of Paris in 36 minutes haha!
