I skipped the first two bands. Attendance was kinda meager. About half as many people as when Suffocation played (capacity is 350 frogs, so I'm guessing there was around 150/175 people tonight).
Baest:
Never heard of them before. A Danish band. They smile a lot, which is not very death metal, but maybe, just maybe, they were actually getting paid that night and didn't buy onto the tour. They're signed to Century Media, so this theory is plausible. I wanted to hate them, but caught myself headbanging (headnodding, rather) a few times during their set. I guess it was a good move switching around the letters in their name, there's already 5 Beasts out there according to Metal Archives. Sixth Beast would have a been a good name, Baest just looks weird. Anyways...
Krisiun:
They slayed. As usual. They're like Dying Fetus, a tight, well-oiled machine with 20+ years experience on the resumé. Being a 3-piece (consisting solely of brothers! Take THAT Pantera-Halen!), their sound is especially precise. It was just a non-stop bulldozer of death metal. Moyses is one of the best guitarists in the genre, amazing to watch/hear. Only annoying thing is Alex's constant thanks to the audience, we get it, you're grateful for our support and that you can make a living touring the world playing a dozen songs each night, but enuf z'nuff with that shit... Highlights: Blood of Lions, Necronomical, Descending Abomination. The Ace of Spades cover I could definitely have done without, goddamn, I'm starting to hate that song. That minor gripe aside, if they roll into your town, go see them!
*ech* couldn't make it, so I managed to keep my drinking way, way under control, only 1 pint was consumed!
No pix this time, they came out pretty shitty, I'll see if I can steal some off the interwebs.
