It was a beautiful night for a concert and the place was packed. Tixx were like $60 all in so this had something to do with it.
Loverboy opened the show with an approximately 30 minute greatest hits set:
They sounded great with Mike Reno and a half, but alas, it appears he is using tracks. You could see him moving the mic back and forth in front of his face, yet the sound tone and volume remained unchanged. The only song he appeared to sing in his current voice was "Working for the Weekend". He sang that down an octave.
REO was up next. Sound was great and no tracks for Cronin. The backups were definitely being sweetened. They unnecessarily had the bass player sing a song (It was awful) and a short drum solo. Other than that the band was tight and sounded very good. Seemed to also be waay to many guitar changes, seems like everyone changed guitars for each song.
While sticking to a similar greatest hits set, Styx also added a few songs from their new effort (yawn) and also Laurence did a not needed Elton John tribute. Most obvious was the missing JY on guitar. They made a slight mention once, that he would be back on the tour soon and the fill in was actually the guy who produced their past 2 records.
All in all, it was a fun night, low dough show.

One of the Philly DJs said that this is the 1st time they've played Roboto live since 83?

I checked... they did pretty much stop playing it after 83, but it's been in their regular sets since 2018. I was in and out of the conversation... maybe the DJ was saying he hadn't seen them since they started playing it again, idk. He was wondering what JY would do onstage since it has no guitars in it and he knows that he hates the song.

Nice review, and cool venue, if it's the one I'm thinking of on the Delaware River.
I'm surprised Loverboy opened with Notorious. Cool tune, but it wasn't a huge hit, at least that I recall.
I'm ok with REO letting Bruce take the lead vocal for Back on the Road Again. It's a more old-school rockin' tune, and it gives Kevin a break without resorting to a tedious instrument solo.
Like Def Leppard on the Stadium Tour, I found Styx opening with a new song a bit of a buzz-kill. I get the bands get tired of playing the hits, especially when multiple members are replacements. I also get that if they play them later, they are instant piss-breaks for many fans.
But to do the obligatory concert opening buildup only to have most of the fans wondering 'What song is this?'

excellent review.
JY has been givin' Tommy Shaw more control the last few years. I'm talkin' about the makin' of the latest record. This apparently is transferrin' to the road. His wife is kinda keepin' him home. He aint out of the band or anythin', just kinda actin' like Jerry Dixon.
