Excellent show at the New Morning if you're into muscular Blues Rock guitar. The show was the last one of the tour in celebration of the anniversary of the Blues label Ruf Records, based out of Germany and established three decades ago to promote and distribute the albums of Luther Allison.. who died shortly after. The opener was a young singer I'd never heard of called Katie Henry, great voice, good songs, her new album On My Way is actually really good. She's easy on the eyes, too, which doesn't hurt. Check out her new record Real Gone, it's excellent if you enjoy the SRV-style blues rock trio format. Nothing earth-shattering, but a reverent and proficient take on the form. Pics, video etc. to be found HERE. https://www.instagram.com/p/C3G4ekTo-2v The main event was Luther Allison's son Bernard, who's already had quite a career. I'd seen him a couple of times over twenty-five years ago and back then it seemed like he would be the next big thing in the Blues Rock guitar genre and take over the world. For some reason it didn't happen, despite a killer Funk-influenced album called Funkifino, which I absolutely love and still play often. I recall seeing a few Ally Venable clips on TubeYou and thinking, now that's a lady who can fill out a pair of faux-leather pants.
