The production on this album is great.
A few of those thrashers went a bit commercial on their 5th album (Testament, Metallica, Megadeth)

Yup, and when they didn't Skolnick bailed and they went metal again on the kickass Low album. Hail Mary and Dog Faced Gods are amongst their best songs.

Yeah, that Black Album success opened the floodgates. Pantera and Sepultura got huge and even had some singles charting as early as 1994. It's crazy when you think about it.

Were Pantera and Sepultura bigger in France than in the USA? None of those two bands had any hits on the pop charts here like Metallica.

They were on Exodus or Death Angel level.

Yeah, they were huge here. Not Michael Jackson huge and not even Metallica huge but they had some pretty big hit singles and their videos got played constantly on mainstream channels. I saw Pantera in 94 and they were headlining a sold-out 5000 arena. Two years later I saw Sepultura headline that same arena, also sold-out. It was a moment in time, and the bubble would burst shortly after.

Our local Rock station NEVER played Pantera in the 90s, even when they had a #1 album. Headbanger's Ball was usually the only place to see their videos.

I never heard Panterrible on the radio during the 90’s. Doubt the stations even had a Sepeltura album that they had access to.
