Remember when I said that joke could never be unfunny? I stand by that statement.

Box is a weird term for pussy but I guess I can see where it comes from. I mean, you can put things in a box, like you can put things in a vagina. So why not? Still, I find it weird and I don't think I'm alone.

2021?! I think that was that re-covid year where there was still nothing much, lockdowns, cancellations galore. If I'm not mistaken, I saw a shitty cover band playing in the street that year. 2020 got off to a great start until mid March and 2022 was the catch-up year with lots of concerts.

2021 saw the slow return of live music after the various lockdowns, etc. which is why I only attended 10 shows that year. I will therefore rank them all. I am only going to mention the headliners. A more comprehensive review with photos (and sometimes video and setlist) are included in the links if you care to find out more. If you don't, there's a little blurb explaining my ranking so as not to be admonished by therealgws for my brevity. 1 - Robert Jon & the Wreck @ les Étoiles, Paris - September 14th, 2021It was the first concert I attended since the entire world shut down. Remember that? When the WHOLE FUCKING WORLD WAS SHUT DOWN? That was crazy. So even though I wasn't overly familiar with the band, that show was a very emotional one. It symbolized life. It symbolized hope. The music was great, but there was something extra. I'm guessing most people in attendance also hadn't been to a live show in months so it added another layer of emotion. Like a communion. And I'm not a particularly social person, but this was genuinely moving. I saw the band again this year, and while it was great, it didn't (it couldn't) rival the intense emotions of that gig. 2 - Steve Hackett @ Salle Pleyel, Paris - November 30th, 2021This was the first time I saw Steve Hackett on stage, and it was absolutely exquisite in every way. For a lot of people, nearly three hours of classic Genesis and progressive rock is tantamount to torture, but for yours truly it was a delight. Hearing Supper's Ready and The Cinema show was worth the price of admission alone. Well, I was comped, but you know what I mean. I saw Hackett again this year and it was every bit as awesome. 3 - The Black Lips @ le Trabendo, Paris - December 2nd, 2021This gig was wild. Sweaty, rowdy, loud and fun. Stage divers. Beer drinkers. Plastic glass throwers. You can kind of tell from the video in the link. I talked to a guy outside who told me that their gigs used to be even crazier, I would have loved to see that! 4 - Little Caesar @ les Étoiles, Paris - October 3rd, 2021This was the band's first Paris concert in a thirty-five year career. I think Manic Eden had played here when the album came out (1994?) but that's as close as it got. Just an excellent, classic hard rock show. 5 - Ayron Jones @ New Morning, Paris - November 29th, 2021Ayron Jones is a young up-and-comer from Seattle, and this was his first overseas concert. He and the band were so moved that they even cried at the end of the show... It was pretty sweet. The music is sort of alternative rock, a little generic perhaps but very well crafted. Good songs, great voice, great energy. I knew right there that great things were in store for them. I wasn't wrong: the next time I saw them, they were opening for The Rolling Stones.6 - The Pineapple Thief @ Élysée-Montmartre, Paris - October 23rd, 2021Excellent show from the Neo-prog band, propelled by Gavin Harrison's jaw-dropping drum work. If you're not familiar with them, check them out. 7 - Popa Chubby @ Olympia, Paris - October 10th, 2021Always been a big fan of the Chubster ever since I got his major label debut Booty and the Beast about thirty years ago. I first saw him in a club in New York City in 1996 back when he could still stand up. He's now way too fat and plays sitting down, but it's still a great time. I saw him again last year and I'm seeing him again next year. 8 - Gary Lucas @ Sunset/Sunside, Paris - November 6th, 2021This was a pretty good show, despite the emphasis on Jeff Buckley's songs (which I like, don't get me wrong, but no singer can really do them justice). The best parts were when Gary Lucas played experimental pieces by himself, playing with echo, delay, loops and samples. Some of his guests that night had no place anywhere near a stage. 9 - JJ Wilde @ la Maroquinerie, Paris - December 6th, 2021Hailing from Canada, JJ Wilde was touted as the next rock sensation and while she was pretty good, I didn't find it to be that. It was fun, and the it's good music to drink to, but it's entirely forgettable. 10 - Murray Head @ l'Olympia, Paris - December 8th, 2021This English dude is more famous here in France than in his home country. He's a literal superstar here because of that one song Say It Ain't So, Joe. He has a fifty years career, and I'll bet most of you that are American have never even heard of him. His success is a little puzzling to me... It's enjoyable enough, but come on. On stage, he doesn't even have that much charisma. He seems like a very nice guy, I'll give him that. It was pleasant, but also a little boring at times. Anybody here have any 2021 concerts they can rank?
The Nobleman How was this for you?
